Carlisle hotel sold to new owner – and plans for new Indian restaurant revealed

Pinegrove Hotel

The new owner of a Carlisle hotel has revealed plans to open an Indian restaurant on site.

The Pinegrove Hotel on London Road was on the market for £750,000 earlier this year. A previous purchase offer had failed.

It had been run by the Middleton family since 2003, with the younger generation taking the reins after their father died in 2019.

Chris Middleton said: “After successfully running the business through the pandemic, we decided it was finally time to hand over the hotel to someone else.”

Chris and his sister Sophie Middleton decided to market the hotel as they wanted to resume their careers.

Now the Middletons have sold the 25-room hotel to Karpal Singh Sohal.

Karpal already intends to build on existing trade, he said.

He said: “We will continue to open the bar to non-residents and we plan to open an Indian restaurant. to add favor and culture to the hotel.

“The main hotel building was built in 1877 and we will retain its grand posture and existing original features including the magnificent stained glass window on the first floor landing.

“The architecture really adds to the atmosphere we want to create at the Pinegrove Hotel to provide guests with a fantastic experience.”

Chris added: “We would like to thank everyone who has supported us over the years and wish the new owners all the best for the future.”

In addition to accommodation, which represents more than 40% of the trade, the hotel has a reception hall and a meeting room and can accommodate business meetings, conferences, private functions and parties.

The bar and the restaurant can accommodate about sixty seats.
