Chai Pani, which serves Indian snacks at an affordable price, is located in downtown Asheville, North Carolina. On Monday, it was named America’s Most Outstanding Restaurant at the James Beard Foundation Awards in Chicago. The snack corner beat Brennan’s in New Orleans to win the supreme title.
The Indian restaurant serves different varieties of tangy and crunchy chaat from $8.49, thalis from $16.99, vada pav, pav bhaji at $10.99 each, chicken tikka roll at 11, $99 and up.

The awards ceremony was held for the first time in two years as the Covid-19 pandemic forced people indoors, hurting businesses.

Chai Pani, which literally means tea and water, advertises itself as a restaurant that serves “innovative, fun, affordable and delicious Indian cuisine”.
The restaurant’s first outlet was opened in 2009 in Asheville.

At the awards ceremony, Mashama Bailey of The Grey, located in Savannah, Georgia, received the title of Outstanding Chef, while Native American Restaurant Owamni in Minneapolis was named Best New Restaurant.
