The Ottawa Fire Department reported receiving calls to 911 starting at 5:17 p.m. One of the callers told a dispatcher they were returning inside the restaurant, but the dispatcher was able to convince them to stay at a safe distance.
The first team arrived at the scene four minutes later and could see flames on the roof of the building. They attacked this fire as a second team checked the interior of the restaurant.
The fire, which was in the heating and ventilation system, was extinguished within seven minutes and did not reach the interior of the one-story building. A fire investigator was dispatched to the scene to determine the cause of the fire.
No one was injured in the incident.
