Glasgow residents have been eating delicious Indian food for decades.
We can say that we are one of the curry capitals of the world, thanks to the huge influence of Indian cuisine in our city.
Famously, one of the UK’s most popular dishes originated right here in Glasgow, with Tikka Masala ‘accidentally’ ending up on our menus.
Everyone has their favorite Indian – we are spoiled for choice. Whether it’s neighborhood takeout or an upscale downtown or western restaurant, come on a Friday night many of us crave a spicy curry and a pint after a hard working week.

And according to TripAdvisor, Glasgow’s number one Indian restaurant is a restaurant many may not have heard of, tucked away behind the St Enoch Center on Howard Street.
With an astonishing 385 ‘excellent’ reviews out of 412, Madras Cafe is clearly well-loved by its customers, with the ‘little gem’ rated as the third best restaurant in all of Glasgow by the review site.
The owners describe the food venue as “a modern Indian restaurant offering wholesome, freshly cooked meals and classic Indian dishes with a modern twist”, adding: “We offer authentic Indian street food and use fresh local produce and best quality exotic spices”.
With a menu including traditional Indian staples such as pakora, butter chicken, lamb madras and garlic chilli chicken, diners found the food “flawless” – perhaps it won’t be. no wonder the Glasgow restaurant has been nominated for a British Curry Award. Last year.
One person said: “It’s not often that a restaurant really does everything you expect it to, but this place was absolutely fantastic.
“The staff we spoke to were really lovely people, attentive without being intrusive and took our order quickly.
“The food was excellent in quality and taste, I particularly recommend the Chicken Karahi.
“If you’re not sure whether you should visit here or not, don’t hesitate, you’re really going to miss something.”
Meanwhile another customer felt it was ‘the best Indian he’s ever had’, while praising the price of the lunch menu, commenting: ‘We came across this little gem of a place in the middle of Glasgow.

“It was a Monday and we had a delicious two course lunch for just £7.95! Probably the best Indian food we have ever had. Lovely service. Would definitely recommend.”
And given Madras Cafe’s location away from the main downtown beat, many hailed the venue as a “fantastic find”.
One restaurant said: ‘I’ve been to Madras Cafe twice in recent weeks, well tucked away on Howard Street, offering first class Indian food. I’ve had different meals on each visit and haven’t had any complaint.”
Other reviews also heralded Madras as ‘an absolute gem of a find’, with the review adding: ‘The food was fresh and delicious, everything tasted exactly as described.
“Good value for money, friendly and helpful staff and lovely relaxed environment.”
And one customer summed up the sentiments of many, saying simply that it was the best Indian restaurant they had ever visited. Their review said: “Must visit if in Glasgow. I’ve had Indians all my life and this is by far the best.
“Very creative dishes have never been seen before. Quality ingredients. Beautiful display. Portions are perfect. Not to mention exceptional service.
“It’s great !!!!”
