A high-end Indian restaurant has been awarded a zero-star food hygiene rating in the latest round of inspections – the lowest rating possible.
Sangam in Portland Street in Manchester city center was deemed ‘in need of major improvement’ following an inspection on January 14 this year.
In a summaryfood hygiene inspectors said the restaurant needed improvements in the categories of food handling, facility cleanliness and food safety management.
The restaurant, which also offers take-out, has two other separate branches in the city that were not part of this inspection.
Sangam in Portland Street has 1,600 rave five-star ratings on the TripAdvisor review site, ranking it 20th out of 1,700 public-reviewed restaurants on the site.
Of Manchester’s 1,365 rated restaurants, cafes and canteens, 901 (66%) now have a five-star rating – and just eight have a zero-star rating.
Sangam was approached for comment but was told the manager is currently unavailable.
Manchester City Council said the full inspection report was not available without filing a freedom of information request.
