Indian restaurant so popular people queue in the street to get in every day opens new location in east London

Canary Wharf has had a plethora of foodie hotspots open in recent months, including Six by Nico and the latest addition to the Market Halls gang. Now, popular Indian restaurant chain Dishoom is set to open its ninth branch in the East End business district, which will open later this year.

The new restaurant will be near Hawksmoor’s floating venue and Emilia’s artisan pasta on Water Street, which will seat 355 diners in an 8,800 square foot double-height restaurant, bar and terrace overlooking the river.

Dishoom’s interior will be decorated to reflect the Iranian cafes of Bombay (Mumbai), offering a full menu of their cult Indian dishes.

This will be the chain’s sixth London location, along with three locations in Manchester, Birmingham and Edinburgh. It also runs a few delivery-only kitchens in places such as Brighton and Cambridge.

Dishoom was recently named the best hospitality company to work for in the UK by job site Glassdoor. The group ranked 12th on the UK’s 50 Best Companies list in this year’s Glassdoor Employees’ Choice Awards.

The group was founded by cousins Shamil and Kavi Thakrar in Covent Garden in 2010, with its last London location opening in 2017. It also runs a ‘meal for a meal’ initiative, from 2015 where for every meal served at the restaurant the company donates the equivalent through Akshaya Patra, an Indian charity that provides free meals to public school children.

We can expect Dishoom to open in winter 2022.
