North East Indian Restaurant Named Best in Britain at the “Curry Oscars”

An Indian restaurant in Darlington was named the country’s best curry restaurant at a prestigious awards ceremony in London.

The award-winning Café Spice, located in Clarks Yard, was voted the nation’s best curry restaurant at this year’s prestigious Curry Life Awards, even though this is the restaurant’s first time participating.

The restaurant, which opened in 2008, met with nominations for Indian, Bangladeshi, Sri Lankan, Nepalese and Pakistani restaurants across the country before receiving the distinction at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London, in the capital, Sunday evening.

After traveling into the early hours of the morning, Cafe Spice owner and chef Brian Miah said, “We’re really happy. We are really excited to win this award and it is a huge boost for our staff and the company.

“We have been open since 2008 and the response from the townspeople has always been fantastic.”

Darlington Restaurant has already won the Bangladesh Caterers Association (BCA) Best Northeast Indian Restaurant Award in 2014, 2016 and 2019, and Mr. Miah was named BCA Chef of the Year in 2017.

When asked what makes Cafe Spice so special, Mr. Miah, 55, added: “I don’t know for sure, I think it’s our service and our food. taking care of our customers and ensuring the quality of our food is top notch.

“I am a chef and we do our best to provide the best for our customers.

“When they called out our name it was a fantastic feeling. We are so happy.”

Over the years, the popular restaurant has also been visited by famous faces, including former Top Gear and The Grand Tour presenter James May.

The Curry Life Awards and Gala Dinner were hosted in association with the Just Eat food ordering app.

The awards went to the UK’s best curry restaurants and top curry chefs, as well as the best curry take-out.

Curry Life Media Group editor-in-chief Syed Belal Ahmed said: “Over the years we have organized the awards, we have seen a major increase in the standards and quality offered to customers, to the point that many restaurants are able to challenge accolades such as Michelin stars.

The Curry Life Awards celebrate the unique fusion cuisine of Indian cuisine in the UK and are part of a larger organization that hosts the British Curry Festival around the world.
