Penn State Indian Culture and Language Club to Celebrate Garba with Traditional Festivities | Way of life

Garba’s season is back and the Indian Culture & Language Club – or ICLC – is welcoming the Penn State community to celebrate.

According to Shashwat Shekhar, President of ICLC, Garba is a traditional Indian festival that “celebrates the female deity for over nine nights filled with traditional music, food and Dandiya dancing”.

Shekhar (senior IT) said that ICLC will host Garba this year at 7 p.m. Sunday in the alumni hall of the HUB-Robeson Center, and that there will be “a bunch of Indian snacks and drinks.”

“Tonight we celebrate fertility, honor femininity and pay homage to one of many mother goddesses,” Shekhar said.

Paridhi Khandelwal, vice president of ICLC, said that Garba is from Gujarat, India, and that he “danced around this symbol to honor the fact that all humans have the divine energy of Devi – the divinity of women – in them ”.

“This dance form is mainly performed during Navaratri – nine nights. Navaratri is to celebrate the victory of good over evil. It is great fun during these nine days. We have all kinds of carnivals all over the country,” Khandelwal ( senior IT) said: “It’s amazing how the whole country is illuminated and decorated. “

Shekhar said the ICLC will also host a “traditional music group” called Medley Entertainment.

“At PSU, ICLC is celebrating Garba for giving the PSU community a taste of the festivities and making all Indians feel at home away from home,” said Khandelwal.
