IndiGrille will be a fast and casual dining concept that will offer authentic Indian cuisine at affordable prices.

“When you go to a traditional Indian restaurant you have to commit to one thing because you are getting giant portions,” said owner Sid Maheshwari. “We’re going to have smaller portions at a lower cost so people can try different things,” he added.

Why is this important: It’s like Chipotle or Shake Shack, but for Indian cuisine.

  • And there is nothing like it in Charlotte, according to Maheshwari.

The context: It’s Maheshwari’s first restaurant, but he’s no stranger to cooking. “I love to feed people,” he says. Maheshwari learned to cook from his parents, who have remained connected to their Indian culture through the ingredients in their cooking.

  • The family immigrated to the United States from India in 1981 when he was two years old.
  • “The three of us love to cook, we love to feed people,” he tells Axios. Adding that they often argue over who is going to cook. Sometimes, he says, the three end up cooking at the same time.

IndiGrille is Maheshwaris’ passion project that is becoming reality because of the pandemic. He does everything from scratch, even building the website using his “basic web development skills” and getting educated along the way.

  • “I work in the hospitality industry, but when it took a hit last year, I decided to take a leap of faith,” he says.

Details: The menu will include your traditional Indian favorites like chicken tikki masala, naan bread, lamb skewers, and palak paneer.

  • The restaurant is located in the Mall on Park Rd. And Woodlawn Rd., Where Total Wine is located.
  • It is tucked away on the ground floor.

And after: The restaurant is expected to open in February or March 2022.
