This Russian dance group’s love for Indian culture is winning hearts on the internet


A Russian-based dance group delights its audience with their unusual musical choice, exotic costumes and extraordinary grace. Moreover, they are winning hearts online with their love for India and its diverse culture.

Founded by Vera Evgrafova in 1987 out of her love for Indian art and culture, the dance repertoire of the Mayuri Indian Dance Group includes over 200 dances, in various styles, themes and musical arrangements.

Mayuri performs a wide range of Indian dances including Bharatanatyam, Kathak, and Kuchipudi, as well as a variety of folk dances from various Indian states. At the same time, the group does not hesitate to experiment and collaborate with other genres such as Spanish and Russian folk.

Beyond dance, Mayuri Group promoted Indian culture in the cold region of Karelia by teaching and performing Indian dance. According to their website, the group also indulges in Hindi classes, lectures on Indian culture and mythology.

Although the dance group is based in Petrozavodsk, Republic of Karelia, Russia, the team have traveled around the world to spread their love for Indian culture.
