Wales’ highest Indian might not be the most traditional, but the bold flavors of the Indian and Mexican blend are drawing its large fan base.
With 160 four- or five-star reviews on TripAdvisor, this gem on Cardiff’s Whitchurch Road is a must visit for foodies.
The “Indi-Mex” was created after founder and chef Vikram dreamed of combining his two favorite cuisines.
He had previously founded Vivo Latino four years ago, a South American restaurant and cocktail bar on Cowbridge Road, which quickly became a staple.
Vivo Amigo has been open since last October but has already made its mark in the restaurant world of Wales.
A glance at Vivo Amigo’s Instagram reveals the kind of multi-colored, fiery goodness you can expect.
Their menu includes Indian inspired burritos including their hot smoked beef madras burrito, tandoori chicken equivalent, paneer masala chimichanga burrito or lamb albondigas among other interesting variations.
Their enchiladas follow the same theme of inserting Indian food into a traditional Mexican main course, with options of spicy tandoori chicken, Kerala beef fries, and Dhansak coconut squash.
If you are looking for a more traditional curry, their “curry club” main courses are much more than you might expect from an Indian curry.
Vivo Amigo serves the usual selection including madrasas, masalas, a Mexican version of an albondigas curry, and a South Indian coconut fish and shrimp curry.
They also serve a variety of starters, burgers, and a kids’ menu.
A review on TripAdvisor said: “The curries are definitely all the best we have had and we will definitely be going back again and again.”
And another added: “The beef curry was the best we have ever had.”
