Wrexham curry house named best Indian restaurant in North Wales

An Indian restaurant in Wrexham was named the best curry restaurant in North Wales.

Ijazz Indian Cuisine was honored at the National Curry Awards (NCA) at a ceremony held in the House of Lords yesterday afternoon (September 15).

Located on Egerton Street next to the bus station, where the popular pub once stood, the restaurant has won awards and built a loyal following in the area with its sophisticated menu and quality curries for five years now after opening in October 2016.

The restaurant, which won the Asian Curry Award for Best Indian Restaurant in Wales in 2018 and 2019, offers a range of dishes from traditional curries such as Dupiaza, Vindaloo and Madrass to more exotic options including an entree of specialized lobster.

Among the restaurant’s most popular dishes is Welsh Lamb Bahar, a slow-cooked lamb dish from a local butcher, according to manager Emran Hussain.

Ijazz has a modern layout which includes a licensed bar and can seat around 120 people. The layout, the “unique” menu and the hard work of the staff are the main reasons for the restaurant’s success according to Mr. Hussain, who said: “Our menu is very unique, you won’t see a lot of the dishes we serve in us. use local Welsh lamb, we have lobster dishes, ostrich dishes – our chef serves a variety of dishes, using the best local ingredients in his own style of Indian cuisine.

“The way we present food is also different. The presentation of the dishes is very important to us and it makes a difference in the dining experience.

“Our most popular dish is Welsh Lamb Bahar which is one of our specialties. It is not a dish you see in every Indian restaurant but we always recommend it as the lamb comes from a local butcher. and as everyone knows, Wales is famous for its lamb.



Mr Hussain says the layout was designed to improve the “restaurant atmosphere”

“It’s cooked in a slow cooker the same way Indians would normally do at home and takes about a few hours to make.

“We also serve all traditional dishes in addition to seafood dishes, specialty dishes and more contemporary dishes.

“The layout of the restaurant is very modern and it caters to people who come for that specific atmosphere you get when you dine in the restaurant.

“The welcome since our opening five years ago has been very good, we are very grateful to the people of Wrexham and those who continue to visit our restaurant.

“Obviously the pandemic has been difficult, but we have received fantastic support during this time and we have also tried to maintain our focus with take out and deliveries. It was a scary time, of especially since we always come into contact with people during deliveries, and I am proud of our staff who have shown courage in the face of this.

“We are delighted to have been named the best Indian restaurant in North Wales. This is a fantastic achievement for the restaurant and the staff who worked so hard. We share the prize with the customers, who have supported us from day one – without them we wouldn’t be able to do anything. “
